Progress on 101 list - Get a new bed

Last week we had our new mattress delivered. Mattresses are much more expensive than I realized. Besides buying things for the wedding (cupcakes, invitations, wedding dress, wedding rings, etc), we wanted to get a wedding present. So, we got a new mattress. Not very romantic, but let me tell you, we needed one. We've been sleeping on N's mattress from college. And it was a full-size mattress. And with three beings in one full-size bed, it gets pretty hot and crowded in there. Surprisingly, the queen size mattress gives us just enough room for all three of us to fit. Baby puppy Stevie was skeptical at this change of sleeping bedware, but she has finally come around. Now she snuggles in the new bed in the morning while I get ready for work.

Now we just have to get an actual bed. I'm thinking something from Ikea. Our mattress is on the boxspring which is on the floor. Oh, and don't get me started about getting the boxspring up the stairs. Seriously, N and I almost got divorced. But we are going to cut that thing up to get it back down. There's no way I am going through that ordeal again.

Valentine's Day Flowers

This weekend was a weekend of date nights for me and N. And it just happened to be the weekend of Valentine's Day. I'm not a big Valentine's Day celebrator. But I don't know if that's always been the case. When I was in high school, I remember complaining that I had never received any flowers for Valentine's Day. And lo and behold, Valentine's Day my junior year, I received a dozen roses from a secret admirer. I giggled and chatted with my friends about this for days. The following year, I received a plant, with one rose in it, and the card said "If you don't thank me this year, you won't get any next year." I didn't know who it was, so I couldn't thank them. I don't remember how I later found out, but it was my father who had given me the roses. That was the kind of man he was.

N gave me an orchid this weekend. I've been wanting an orchid for a few years in fact, ever since I saw them at the Charlottesville Farmer's Market. It was a real surprise to get one. I always told N not to get me flowers for any occasion, because they always die. I'd rather get a plant, something that will be with us for a while (hopefully). And he did. That's the kind of man he is. I've been lucky to have such sweet men in my life.

I've been rereading my 101 List and have been updating each time I review it. There are some items on there that I strive to do everyday or every week (such as taking a vitamin everyday, or spending 5 hours a week on crafts). While I could try to keep track of these things each and everyday, I then fear I'd live me life according to list. My goal is to do these things so often that they just become second nature. Like, if you do something enough, it becomes a habit. As much as I LOVE lists, I don't want my life to be one big to-do list.

Saturday morning, a few girls from N's program got pedicures to celebrate our friend OW's coming baby. She's having her baby on the 24th of the month. I lieu of a big to-do baby shower, she just wanted some girl company, with the added bonus of sexy toes. It's was a good time to spend with her and the other girls before the baby comes. I can honestly say that I am purely jealous. I want to be pregnant, and have a baby, and this feeling has been growing inside of me for years and years. I just know I'm going to try to be the best mother, and wife, and I want to start trying as soon as possible. I also know that we can't even begin to think about it seriously until both of us are financially and emotionally ready. So, we're not ready. But I can't wait until we are.

Swap-o-rama

Last night's Swap-o-rama was a success, as usual. There were 7 of us, and we all scored some good finds. All-in-all, I got rid of approximately 50 items (I didn't get a chance to count my donations before I sorted the items into their designated piles). It definitely wasn't less that 50 items.

Also, I signed up for Paperbackswap.com and sent away "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." This site is great for people like me who go through books quickly. In an effort to save money, I have listed on my 101 list that I will not buy any new books for 12 months. Users of paperbackswap.com can make a wish list and when a book on a user's wish list is posted on the site, the book is automatically sent to you (if you're the first person in line of course). I've also listed a book on Amazon that was purchased today. I love passing along good reads.
